The fourth match of the five-Test series between India and England is set to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford Cricket Stadium in Manchester.
The big question ahead of this encounter is whether India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will feature in the playing eleven or if the management will rest him to manage his workload.
Before the Indian team departed for the England tour, the camp had made it clear that Jasprit Bumrah would be available for only three Test matches during the series, primarily due to workload management.
So far, Bumrah has played in the first and third Tests, while he was rested in the second. Following this pattern, it is believed that he may be rested again for the fourth Test. However, no official statement has been issued by the BCCI or the team management regarding this matter.
If Jasprit Bumrah is rested, the big question is who will take his place in the playing XI. The most likely replacement is Arshdeep Singh.
Although Arshdeep is yet to make his debut in Test cricket, he has valuable experience playing county cricket, which gives him an advantage in English conditions. Earlier, Prasidh Krishna was given a chance, but he failed to leave a mark with his performance.
Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the standout performers in the ongoing Test series against England. In the two matches (1st and 3rd Test) he has played, Bumrah has picked up 12 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls.
Despite missing the 2nd Test due to workload management, he is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in IND vs ENG Test series and has played a crucial role in keeping India competitive. If rested, his absence could be a significant blow for Team India in Manchester.
