India is currently engaged in a five-match Test series against England, and three matches have been completed so far.

Out of these, India has secured victory in just one game (2nd Test). The third Test, which was played at Lord’s, seemed within India’s grasp, but England’s relentless bowling turned the tide, resulting in a narrow 22-run defeat for Team India.

The poor performance by Indian batters in the second innings has now reflected in the latest ICC Test rankings, where several players have lost ground.

Root Crowned No. 1 Test Batter

Joe Root has returned to the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings, reclaiming the No.

1 position just a week after slipping down.

This marks the beginning of his eighth stint at the top of the Test batting charts. At 34 years old, Root becomes the oldest player to occupy the top Test batter ranking since Kumar Sangakkara, who held the position at the age of 37 back in December 2014.

Indian Stars Slip in Rankings

Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t make a mark in the Lord’s Test. He scored only 13 runs in the first innings and was dismissed for a duck in the second.

Due to this performance, he has slipped one place in the ICC Test batting rankings—from fourth to fifth position.

Captain Shubman Gill also failed to deliver and has dropped three spots. He was ranked sixth earlier but has now moved to the ninth position. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has also gone down by one spot and now sits at number eight.

KL Rahul delivered an excellent performance in the Lord’s Test, which helped him climb five places in the ICC rankings—from 40th to 35th.

Ravindra Jadeja also impressed with his all-round display and moved up five places, going from 39th to 34th in the batting chart.

Jadeja continues to remain at the top of the ICC Test all-rounder rankings.

Washington Sundar, who was included in the playing XI for the Lord’s Test, showcased great skill with the ball and picked up four wickets in the second innings. His effort has seen him jump 12 spots in the ICC Test bowling rankings—from 58th to 46th.
