Main point:

ICC’s annual meeting started in Singapore will discuss issues like two -level Test system, increasing the number of teams in the T20 World Cup and inclusion of new members. The World Test Championship will not change yet but after 2027, a new system may come.

Delhi: The annual general meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is going to start in Singapore from Thursday. This meeting will run for four days. During this time many important issues will be discussed such as two level test systems, increasing the number of teams in the T20 World Cup and subscribing to new countries.

Test cricket will be divided into two levels

There has been a long talk about Test cricket that it should be divided into two levels. However, the cycle of the World Test Championship 2025-27 has already started, so there will be no change at this time. However, the implementation of this scheme after 2027 in the meeting can be discussed. In this system, rules to money, promotion and relaxation will be important.

ICC President Jai Shah and new CEO Sanjog Gupta will hold serious talks on this. Big boards like England and Australia are in favor of this system.

Changes in T20 World Cup also

The number of teams in the T20 World Cup may increase. Right now 20 teams play in this tournament and this format will remain till 2026. But, in future it can have 24 teams. Especially the return of cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the team like Italy to qualify for the World Cup is strengthening this decision.

A source said that with the arrival of teams like Italy, it is clear that cricket is now becoming popular in more countries too. Therefore, ICC wants cricket to reach more audiences.

After becoming the ICC president, Jai Shah has held many big meetings. He met the FIFA chairman during a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Greece in March. Earlier in January, he also interacted with the former president of IOC.
