Delhi: Prior to the fourth match of the five -match Test series between India and England, former captain of Team India and former chairman of the selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar has given a big statement about fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Questioning Bumrah’s playing policy, he has said that if a player is fit, then he should play every match.
Dilip said, “I do not agree with the idea of which test to decide and which is not. If you are fit and part of the team, then you should play every Test match for the country. Bumrah is a world -class bowler and India has the ability to win the match. It is beyond not playing the match after being on a tour.”
The fourth Test between India and England is to be played in Manchester from 23 July. But, there is still doubt about Bumrah’s participation in this match. According to reports, they can be rested in this match. However, assistant coach Ryan Ten Dashakate has indicated that Bumrah can be launched in this match, but the final decision will be taken just before the match.
Bumrah has played two matches in the series so far. He took five wickets in the first Test, but Team India lost by five wickets. After this, he was rested in the second Test, in which India made a strong comeback and won by 336 runs. Bumrah returned in the third Test, but the team lost by 22 runs.
Vengsarkar questioned Bumrah’s absence in the second Test. He said, “After the first Test, Bumrah had got a comfort of about 7-8 days, yet he was not included in the second Test, which was not acceptable. The decision may have been fine for the selectors and coaching staff, but if the player playing for the country is fit, he should not be seated outside.”
