Delhi: The Manchester Test between India and England will start from 23 July. Before this match, Team India’s biggest concern is about the fitness of Rishabh Pant. During the third Test, Jasprit Bumrah’s ball hit his index finger, after which he left the ground and went out on the first day. After this, he landed in both innings only for batting.
Pant scored 74 runs while batting brilliantly in the first innings despite being injured, while in the second innings he could score only 9 runs. Due to his injury, Dhruv Juril took the responsibility of wicketkeeping.
The situation regarding the wicketkeeping of Rishabh Pant is not clear. In such a situation, many cricket experts believe that they can be included in the final XI as specialist batsman. The Indian team’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Dashakate has also pointed out that Pant can be launched as a batsman.
However, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri does not agree with this opinion. He clearly said that if Pant is not fully fit, then he should stay out of the Manchester Test. Shastri said in the ICC Review Podcast, “If he cannot do wicketkeeping, he should not even feed him as a batsman, because he will have to field and may increase the risk of injury without gloves.”
Shastri further said that if there is a fracture in Pant’s finger, then he should be rested so that he can return to the Oval in the next Test. He also clarified that if the player is not fit, then he can neither batting nor keep only keeping, he will have to be ready to play both roles.
