Former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer and West Indies cricket great Clive Lloyd will have stands named in their honour at the historic Old Trafford ground by their former county team, Lancashire. The ceremony will take place alongside the fourth Test between India and England.

Engineer represented Lancashire for almost a decade, while Lloyd, the former West Indies captain, played for the club for 20 years, making significant contributions to its history.

Sources told PTI that the naming ceremony is likely to take place on the first day of the Test match, which is set to begin on July 23. England lead the five-match series 2-1.

“It is a well-deserved tribute to the two legends of the club,” a source said.

“They were incredible times, and Old Trafford was an amazing place to play cricket. Fans would travel from far to watch us play,” Engineer once said.

Engineer also recalled getting emails.

“From the Old Trafford dressing room, we could see Warwick Road railway station, and before the game, we’d watch packed trains unloading passengers onto the platform. The air was filled with chanting, excited chatter, and laughter,” he recalled.

“That excitement continued for years, and we became the most popular one-day team in the country,” he added.

Following his retirement, Engineer settled in Manchester. Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar is also expected to be present at the ceremony, along with senior club officials.
