The India test captain, Shubman Gill, has officially confirmed that Akash Deep has been ruled out of the upcoming Manchester Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which is set to begin on Wednesday.

India has suffered a massive setback with injury concerns as Nitish Reddy and Arshdeep Singh have been ruled out due to their respective injuries. On the eve of the fourth test, Akash Deep’s unavailability has been confirmed by the Indian side.

On this occasion, Gill has confirmed that Anshul Kamboj who was added to the squad as cover is ‘very close to making his debut’ as third seamer, with India’s team management set to make a call between him and Prasidh Krishna.

However, India is expected to field Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth test. While the pacer has been planned to play only three out of five games in the series due to workoad management, there is a chance the Manchester weather might reduce the strain on him.

Akash Deep is currently third highest wicket taker in the series with 11 dismissals in three games at an average of 28.09.

His impressive spell helped India to secure 336-run victory in Birmingham. However, there might be possibiities of bringing in Shardul Thakur in the place of injured Reddy.

The upcoming match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will be crucial for both the sides as India will be aiming for a win to draw the series. However if England edges the visitors, Shubman Gill‘s side will lose the series.

The fourth test will be played between July 23 and 27 at Old Trafford Cricket StadiumManchester.
