Delhi: A few months after the removal of the role of Assistant Coach in the Indian men’s cricket team, Abhishek Nair has been appointed as the head coach of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) team UP Warizer. He will replace England coach John Louis, who left the post after working with the team for three years.

Good experience with Team India

Abhishek Nair was recently associated with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant coach during IPL 2025. Earlier in February, the role of coaching with the Indian team ended. He was part of Gautam Gambhir -led coaching staff when India won the Champions Trophy in UAE.

Prior to Team India, Nair was associated with KKR for a long time and his role in the team’s title win in 2024 was important. He along with Gautam Gambhir made a special focus on the skill development of the players.

Old Ties with UP Warizer

This is not the first time that Nair will work with UP Warriz. Earlier, he has joined the team in the off-season training camps after the first season of WPL. The franchise is confident that this time their coaching will give the team stability and strengthening.

Nair expresses happiness

Expressing happiness over his appointment, Nair said, “I have worked with UP Warrjer before and I enjoyed that experience. Now I am very excited about this new role. WPL is a great platform for women’s cricket and I will work hard to strengthen this team.”

He added, “The foundation of the team is stronger than before and I am confident that we can prepare a great squad. My goal is to win our first title this time.”

Domestic players will benefit

With the arrival of Nair, the team is expected to get a big benefit to Indian domestic players. He has played an important role in improving the game of many Indian cricketers while living in KKR and Team India.

KL Rahul also once said that with the help of Nair, he got his form again in T20 cricket. At the same time, experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have also been affected by Nair’s training style and guidance.
