The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has named Bharat Arun as the bowling coach for the upcoming season, replacing the outgoing Zaheer Khan.
The development comes a day after the Kolkata Knight Riders parted ways with head coach Chandrakant Pandit. There are two vacancies in the team, but it is understood that KKR will recruit the new coaching staff after a robust selection process.
He will be joining LSG after a successful stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, which included a triumphant season in 2024. He was at KKR for four years, starting from the 2022 season.
It is known that he has signed a two year deal with Sanjiv Goenka’s sidefor a role which will require him to work with the LSG players throughout the year.
The former Indian pacer has been credited for guiding and inspiring India’s bowling unit during his tenure as bowling coach.
He was undertook the development of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi, injury prone pacers with high ceilings.
While the young duo were not able to get back to full fitness, Bharat Arun was able to build a new pace batter of KKR, comprising Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana.
Lucknow are also set to part ways with head coach Justin Langer, who joined in 2024. He was part of the team for two years, but failed to bring success, and for the same season, the team management is eager to form a new coaching group.
LSG have a priortised a complete Indian fast bowling unit, but it has not materialised due to multiple injury concerns in the squad.
Fast bowlers Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan in the side have either missed the IPL 2024 season due to injury. With Mohsin Khan fully ruled out of the season, Mayank Yadav barely played any matches.
Bharat Arun’s job is to get these players back to full fitness and help them find the sweet spot between bowling at optimum capacity and breaking down.
