After learning what transpired, Patidar contacted Manish directly, requesting him to hand over his number.
Rajat Patidar, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), became involved in an unusual situation when his old mobile number was reassigned to someone in Chhattisgarh. What began as a simple telecom issue escalated into a series of odd events, eventually forcing Patidar to seek the help of police.
According to report, Patidar’s previous number was inactive for more than 90 days, prompting his telecom provider to deactivate it and give it to a new user. This number was picked up by a young man named Manish from the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh, who activated it with a Reliance Jio SIM card in late June. Manish and his friend Khemraj realised that the WhatsApp profile picture on the number belonged to Rajat Patidar.
Soon, the number started receiving calls from renowned cricketers Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. At first, Manish and Khemraj found the situation amusing, believing it was either a prank or a mistake.
After learning what transpired, Patidar contacted Manish directly, requesting him to hand over his number. However, Manish responded jokingly, saying, “And we’re MS Dhoni,” not realising it was actually Patidar. Frustrated by the response, Patidar warned the boys, saying, “Okay, I’ll send the cop.” Within minutes, local police arrived at Manish’s home, and the situation began to escalate.
With the police now involved, they took charge of the matter. Once the boys understood it wasn’t a prank, they co-operated fully with the authorities and handed over the SIM card. Reflecting on the incident, Khemraj described it as an unforgettable experience, something he would never have expected.
“I ended up speaking to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life’s goal is fulfilled,” he said.
