Tim David set a new record for the most sixes hit by an Australian in a T20I against South Africa, smashing eight sixes during his 83-run knock off 52 balls in the opening T20I at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Sunday. The previous record was set by David Warner when he scored 89 in Melbourne in 2009.
David Hussey matched the record with an 88-run knock in Johannesburg, and Mitchell Marsh followed suit, hitting six sixes in his 79 at Kingsmead, Durban in 2023. Just two days later, Travis Head also matched the feat with a 91 at the same venue.

David was the star of Australia’s innings, rescuing the side after they were reduced to 75 for six in just 7.4 overs. He was supported by Ben Dwarshuis, who contributed 17 from 19 balls, and they added a crucial 59-run partnership for the seventh wicket, guiding Australia to a total of 178 in their 20 overs. Australia won the match by 17 runs after restricting South Africa to 161/9.
