Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is hogging the limelight since the reports came out that he has submitted a trade request as he doesn’t want to play for the franchise in IPL 2026. He has been an integral part of RR since 2013, and the franchise made it to the final under his captaincy in 2022. However, the performance was not up to the mark in 2025, and it is being said that Samson and the franchise are likely to end their long-standing union.
Meanwhile, Samson recently spoke to R Ashwin on the latter’s show Kutti Stories with Ash. “Captaincy has helped me to change and added a different perspective to my thinking. There is no one way of achieving success in cricket. When people try different things, I have to back them instead of questioning them,” Samson said.
He revealed an interesting story about RR teammate Shimron Hetmyer, who has a habit of sleeping late.
“He wakes up at 5 pm for an 8 pm match. He is sleepy during team meetings. But when it comes to a match, he scores important runs for the team. This is another way of getting the job done,” he added.
When Ashwin asked about one decision he would like to change, Samson’s reply led to laughter.
“Not retaining Ash bhai (Ashwin),” Samson said. Ashwin, who played for Rajasthan for three seasons, was not retained by the franchise for the 18th edition of the tournament.
