Delhi: Former India captain and legendary player Sourav Ganguly has described Bengal batsman Abhimanyu Ishwaran as a suitable candidate for the number 3 place in the Test team. Ganguly believes that Ishwaran has both experience and age, and he will definitely get a chance in the coming time.

Ishwar has been waiting for years

Abhimanyu Ishwaran has been performing brilliantly in domestic cricket for a long time, but has not yet got a chance to debut in India’s senior Test team. He has traveled with the team on foreign tours, being part of Team India’s squad many times, such as Australia and England. But till now he has not been included in the playing XI.

No chance despite performance

Ishwaran has scored 7841 runs while playing 103 matches in first class cricket, that too at a great average of 48.70. Despite this, whenever there was a reshuffle in the Indian Test team, he was still ignored. When Rohit Sharma was absent in the Perth Test last year, KL Rahul was given a chance in place of Ishwaran.

Number 3 chair still empty

Team India’s number 3 position did not look stable during the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The management tried Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair, but both batsmen could not succeed much. Sudarshan scored just 140 runs in six innings, while Nair scored 205 runs in eight innings, but failed to play big innings.

Constant performance in domestic cricket

Ishwaran is not only scoring continuous runs at the domestic level, but has also been a regular captain of India ‘A’ team. He also scored 80 runs in an innings, batting at number 3 in an informal Test against England Lions. However, till now we are waiting to make a debut for India.
