Historical step for transparency and sports improvement in Indian sports, National Sports Governance Bill 2025 pass

New Delhi: The country’s top players and National Sports Association expressed happiness over the historic passage of the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 in Parliament on Tuesday. Olympic medalist Gagan Narang, veteran hockey player Savita Punia, Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Hockey India appreciated this important achievement on social media.

The bill offers the first integrated and comprehensive legal structure of transparency, accountability and the good of players in Indian sports administration.

Players and associations response

Gagan Narang wrote on X (East Twitter), “Historical days for Indian sports. With the passage of National Sports Governance Bill and Anti Doping Amendment Bill, we are moving towards transparency, accountability and athlete-first governance.”

Hockey goalkeeper Savita Punia said, “This is not just a bill, but a vision for the future of Indian Games.”

The Badminton Association of India said that this step will bring India’s sports structure to the global standards and would prefer athlete welfare. Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey called it a “historical moment”.

The National Sports Governance Bill 2025 not only brings India closer to international sports standards, but will also help in the target of hosting 2036 Olympics and becoming a developed nation by 2047.
