Fast bowler Akash Deep has spoken about the support he received from head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill during India’s tour of England. Akash highlighted how Gambhir had more confidence in him than he did in himself. The right-arm pacer played a key role in three Tests, delivering impressive performances.

Akash opened up on his conversation with Gambhir following his 66 in the second innings of the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He shared a 131-run partnership with centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal.

“You aren’t aware of your capabilities. See, I was telling you, you can do it. You have to play with this dedication always,” Akash told PTI, quoting Gambhir’s words.

“Gautam bhai is a very passionate coach. He always motivates us. He has more faith in me than I have in myself,” he added.

Akash made his debut in February 2024,.He was also involved in the Australian tour, playing in two Tests.

On the England tour, Akash was benched for the first Test in Leeds. He claimed a 10-wicket haul in the second Test at Birmingham, helping India secure a memorable win. Akash made significant contributions with the bat as a nightwatchman in the vital final Test.
