Yuvraj Singh has lauded India’s Test captain Shubman Gill for the turnaround in his performances in overseas matches. There was a question mark on his ability to score runs in away matches, and some experts were not pleased when the 25-year-old was appointed captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
However, he scored over 700 runs in the five-match Test series against England. Yuvraj opined on Gill’s run-scoring spree in England, hailing him for leading the team from the front. He also labeled the drawn series a win for India.
“There were question marks over his record in overseas conditions. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It is unbelievable how well he performed after becoming a skipper. I am proud of the team. It is a win for us as it was a young team. Although the series was a draw but it is not easy to win in England,” he told ICC.
Gill was named the Player of the Series from India as he posted 754 runs from five matches at an average of 75.4. Yuvraj also hailed Ravindra Jadeja.
“I haven’t seen in a long time that Washington and Jadeja got hundreds’ helping us to draw a Test. Jadeja has been there for a long time but Washington Sundar was magnificent,” he added.
Jadeja scored 516 runs at an average of 86 with one hundred and five half-centuries. Jadeja and Sundar played key roles in helping India to draw the fourth Test and keep the series alive. The duo added 203 runs to take the visitors to safety.
