Waqar Salamkheil’s four-fer and Alick Athanaze’s knock have secured a solid start for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the opening match in the CPL 2025 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
St Kitts and Nevis Falcons secured a six-wicket win against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Friday’s clash to secure their first win of the tournament.
Batting first, Jewel Andrew and R Cornwall opened the innings while Kyle Mayers opened the attack.
Mayers and Farooqi went on to bag the wickets of Andrew and Cornwall for a duck and 3 runs respectively. However, Karima Gore went on to make fifty while the other batters lost their wickets at regular interval.
With the dismissal of Bevon Jacobs and Fabian Allen for 1 and 12 runs by Naseem Shah and Waqar Salamkheil, Gore went on to score 61 runs off 34 deliveries which included 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Waqar Salamkheil went on to dismiss Shakib and Odean Smith in the 14th over. with Holder and Naseem Shah dismissed Ghazanfar and Jayden Seases respectively, Antigua scored 121 runs losing all 10 wickets in the 18th over.
waqar Salamkheil went on to pick four wickets while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naseem Shah bagged two wickets. The other two wickets were picked by Kyle Mayers and Holder.
In the pursuit of chasing 122 runs, Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher opened the innings while Imad Wasim opened the bowling attack.
The opener duo made a decent start where Evin Lewis scored 25 runs while Fletcher scored 19 runs.
Desite the dismissal of Rile Rossouw for 0, Kyle Mayers scored 15 runs before being dismissed by 15 runs.
Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder went on to finish the innings, scoring 37* and 18* runs and completed the innings in 15 overs.
Waqar Salamkheil was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post match conference, “Today’s my first match for St Kitts, I am really happy that I did really well and we won the game. The wicket supported me a lot and I enjoyed. (Relationship with the players from the subcontinent) They are like my brothers, we talk a lot.”
St Kitss and Nevis Patriots will play their next game against Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 16 at Werner Park.
