Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested that the Mumbai Indians should be more patient with their overseas recruits. In a YouTube discussion about the IPL 2026 auctions, Chopra pointed out that MI once had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green in their squad but chose to let them go. Although these players didn’t make a lasting impact during their time with MI, they went on to prove themselves with other teams. Chopra mentioned that this lack of patience hasn’t worked out well for MI, as all four have since become important players for their respective teams.

“The Mumbai Indians are quick to identify talent, but sometimes they part ways too soon. Let me mention four players they had but eventually let go. Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green in the same year. These four were once part of the squad,” he said.

“The Mumbai Indians have a strong tradition of spotting talent, but there’s one thing they might reconsider. While they show great patience with Indian players, they could afford to be more patient with their overseas recruits, especially the young, inexperienced ones. They often let these players go when they’re just rough diamonds, but with time and development, they could turn into valuable assets,” Chopra added.

He also predicted that Cameron Green could emerge as the highest-priced player in the forthcoming auction.

“I believe Cameron Green could become the most expensive player in the auction. Since returning from injury, his batting form has been outstanding. He’s not bowling just yet, but he will start at some point. Right now, he’s batting in the top order because he isn’t bowling,” Chopra mentioned.

“If he begins bowling again, combined with his impressive batting skills, he could drive up the price. Teams will be willing to pay a premium for him. That’s my belief. This auction could very well revolve around Cameron Green,” he concluded.
