Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra believes that Shreyas Iyer should make a part of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025. He said that Iyer’s performance during the 2025 Champions Trophy was very spectacular, where India had won the title. In that tournament, Iyer batted aggressively in the middle overs and took over the team in difficult times and removed the pressure from other batsmen.

The most important player in middle overs

Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “When we were watching the Champions Trophy, there was no better Indian batsman than Shreyas Iyer in the middle overs. He was constantly pressurizing the opposition team by putting a boundary and giving relief to fellow batsmen.”

IPL 2025 topped both captaincy and form

Akash Chopra also told that Iyer performed brilliantly in IPL 2025, captaining Punjab Kings. This is the same team that reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and made it to the finals. Shreyas played an unbeaten 87 -run match winning innings in Qualifier 2, which reflects his leadership and form.

Iyer’s name is required in IPL -based selection

He said that when we talk about the selection of T20 team, the performance of IPL is considered to be the most important. “We have seen that players like Varun Chakraborty, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were also selected on the basis of his performance in the IPL. If we look at the same scale, Shreyas Iyer should get a place in the team.”

30 -year -old Shreyas Iyer has scored 1104 runs in 47 T20 international innings so far. His strike rate is 136.12 and he is the fifth highest run -scorer among the current Indian players.

The Asia Cup 2025 is to start from 9 September and the tournament will be played in UAE till 28 September. Indian selectors will announce the team on August 19 and Shreyas Iyer is currently in excellent form. In such a situation, there is every possibility of joining the team.
