The BCCI announced the 20-member team (including five reserve players) for the Continental Cup but Iyer’s name was missing.
Dinesh Karthik has questioned the omission of Shreyas Iyer from Team India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad. The BCCI announced the 20-member team (including five reserve players) for the Continental Cup.
Iyer’s snub has shocked former players, considering his performances in the 2025 Indian Premier League. He scored 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07.
“Where is Shreyas Iyer? That’s a big question. He was not a part of the 15 players considering India’s results. They have won 17 out of their last 20 matches. But not making him a part of the five reserve players with the T20 World Cup in mind is surprising,” Dinesh Karthik said.
“It is unfair to close doors on him. He has done we well as a leader and batter under pressure,” he added.
Iyer has amassed 1104 runs in 47 innings in the shortest format, including eight fifties.
Shreyas Iyer’s father, Santosh Iyer, said that his son was disappointed after the omission from the 2025 Asia Cup team.
“He performed well in the IPL and even led Punjab Kings to the final. Kolkata Knight Riders won the title under his captaincy. Don’t make him the Indian captain, but at least select him,” he told TOI.
“He doesn’t show dissent on his face. He is calm and doesn’t blame anybody, but he is disappointed,” he added.
Iyer has been a part of 135 matches across formats, scoring 4,760 runs at an average of 40.68, with the help of six hundreds and 35 fifties.
