The Indian National Cricket Team is set to undergo the Bronco Test as part of their fitness regimen ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
The change in the fitness program comes after the suggestion from the side’s new fitness and conditioning coach, Adrian le Roux. The reports added that Le Roux also prefers the pacers to run more miles rather than gym-focused work, and head coach Gautam Gambhir is of the same opinion.
The Indian team has already implements the Yo-Yo Test and a 2-km time trial for the players to check off their list to maintain their level of fitness.
The Bronco Test is the series of shuttle run exercise in which a player is required to cover distance of 20m, 40m and 60m respectively, with one cycle representing a set.
Players will be required to complete five sets, approximately 1200m in six minutes, without taking a break.
The test has been introduced in an effort to lay down a marker in terms of fitness and conditioning the players are required to meet going forward.
As per reports, a number of players contracted to the BCCI have made the trip to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to undergo Bronco Test, with side focussing on the running mileage of the players, pacers in particular, over gym-work.
The existing Yo-Yo Test requires players to cover the distance between two cones placed 20m at incremental speeds, with a break of 10 seconds between every 40m. The minimal requirement to pass the test is 17.1.
The 2-km time trial requires the seamers to clock a time of 8 minutes and 15 seconds while wicketkeepers and batters have little previlege of extra 15 seconds at 8 minutes and 30 second to stipulated distance.
Le Roux who joined the side in his current capacity in June for his second stint with Men in Blue, had an earlier spell with the Indian team between 2002 and 2003 before he went on to serve as the fitness and conditioning coach of South Africa, IPL sides Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
