Imran Tahir Five-Fer, Hope-Hetmyer’s Blitz Seals Mammoth Win for Amazon Warriors

After stellar knocks from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, Imran Tahir picked a five-wicket haul to secure a huge win for Guyana Amazon Warriors on Saturday’s clash.

The Warriors went on to seal an 83-run victory in the CPL 2025 game against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons to claim their second win of the season. They secured a second spot in the CPL 2025 points table and have a superior run rate than other franchises.

Batting first, Ben McDermott and Kevlon Anderson opened the innings for Warriors while Iman Wasim opened the bowling attack.

Obed McCoy gave the first breakthrough for Falcons as Ben McDermott got dismissed for 8 runs. With Kevlon Anderson and Shai Hope’s partnership, they went on to score only 36 runs in the powerplay.

Wasim picked the wicket of Kevlon Anderson for 22 runs, but Shai Hope and Hetmyer went on aggressive mode smashing 82 and 65* runs respectively.

Hope’s knock included 6 fours and 5 sixes while Hetmyer’s knock included 5 fours and 5 sixes.

With Romario Shepherd’s 25* runs, Guyana Amazon Warriors went on to score 211 runs in the 20 over innings.

In the pursuit of chasing 212 run target, Jewel Andrew and Rakheem Cornwall opened the innings while Dwaine Pretorius opened the bowling attack.

Pretorius went on to dimissed the opener duo Jewel Andrew (13) and Rakheem Cornwall (10). After Shepherd bagged the wicket of Gore for 31 runs, Tahir went on to bag the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and Imad Wasim for 8 and 0 respectively.

He further added another dismissal to his tally sending out Shamar Springer on lbw for 3 runs. With Gudakesh Motie dismissing Fabian Allen for 22 runs, Tahir wiped out the the remaining batters Usama Mir and Obed McCoy for 1 and 0 respectively.

In the 16th over, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons lost all 10 wickets to score only 128 runs as they lost the game by 83 runs.

Imran Tahir was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post match conference, Tahir said, “I feel really proud (on receiving the award from Sir Viv Richards) and I’m gonna cherish that for a long time. We knew if we get to 170-180 we will be in the game.”

“Things went well for me and the team. In T20 cricket you have to be on it from ball one and I always try to give my best and thanks for the Guyanese supporters. We stay together and we enjoy each other’s success and that is the team culture we have,” he added.

“Hopefully we carry on the same way we started.We gel in really well and it was pleasure watching our batters step up,” Tahir further added.

“As a team, we try our best and put our body on the line and that is what I want as a captain, super proud of the boys especially with the fielding effort. I try to put the ball on line and length and obviously use my variations,” concluded Imran Tahir.

Guyana Amazon Warriors will play their next game against Saint Lucia Kings on August 27 at Daren Sammy National Cricket StadiumGros Islet, St Lucia.
