Delhi: India’s veteran Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara suddenly announced his retirement from all the formats on Sunday. 37 -year -old Pujara last played the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in 2023 for the Indian team. After this, he did not get a chance again. He played 103 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, although he never got a chance to debut in T20 International.

After Pujara’s retirement, many former and current players greeted him through social media and remembered his contribution. His wife Pooja Pabari also wrote a emotional note on Instagram and told that he is happy that Pujara always played cricket with full dedication and won the hearts of people with his calm style.

Pooja wrote – “Stay in the present, because the present is the gift of the highest attendance.” He told that Pujara has always lived on this principle and will continue to do the same further. He said – “As soon as you are bid farewell to your first love and passion i.e. cricket, I am happy that you always played with full devotion and stayed on the field in your calm and dignified style.”

Pujara and Pooja’s life journey

Cheteshwar Pujara and Pooja were married on 13 February 2013. His daughter Aditi was born on 23 February 2018. The two met through the family and after a long conversation they felt connected with each other. Pooja wrote in her message-“From not knowing anything about cricket, you and this game is a big lesson for me, to love your eyes. It is a matter of pride for me to live together in the ups and downs of your career.”

Pooja further said – “I will miss you very much by playing on the field. Your strict routine and nervousness before the match will also be remembered. Whatever celebrations and moments are missed due to priority to cricket, we will fulfill them now.”

Although Pujara could not make a big contribution for India in white ball cricket, he played an important role for the Indian team for more than 10 years in Test cricket. He played several memorable innings on domestic and foreign pitches. Pujara scored a total of 7195 Test runs in his career and left an indelible mark in Indian cricket history.
