Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott has been appointed as the head coach of the Gulf Giants of the International League T20 (ILT20) franchise ahead of the 2025-26 season.

A day after parting ways with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, he went on to link up with the Giants.

The inaugural champions of the ILT20, haven’t had the seasons they would have like in the subsequent editions, finishing in the third and fifth spots in the points table.

Trott had a great season with the Capitals in SA20, finishing in penultimate position in a six-team tournament. However, he was looking forward to taking up the role with the Giants, having taken Afghanistan men’s team to never before-seen heights in international cricket.

“The Gulf Giants have quickly become one of the ILT20’s most successful teams. My goal is to empower players to excel and help shape a championship-winning squad through the first-ever ILT20 Auction,” Jonathan Trott added.

The ILT20 auction will be held on September 30 in Dubai for the fourth season which is set to run from December 2, 2025 to January 04, 2026.

“The team’s ambition is clear,” Bond said. “I’m excited to sharpen our bowling attack and make a decisive impact this season.”

Giants have also roped in Andrew Puttick as batting coach while Jim Troughton and Nick Lees has been named as fielding coach and fitness coach.

“It’s an honour to work in a setup that values player development. I’m eager to contribute to our collective success,” said Puttick.

Meanwhile, Adani Sportsline Chief Business Officer Sanjay Adesara said, “We are thrilled to welcome this exceptional group of cricketing minds. Their experience and shared values will be pivotal in taking the Gulf Giants to new heights.”
