The passing of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025 in both houses of the Parliament has impacted the sports industry in India.

Dream11 has terminated its contract with the Indian cricket team. If the BCCI doesn’t find a new lead sponsor before the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will play the tournament without a sponsor.

Apart from the BCCI, the Indian players will also take a hit. Dream11 had a contract with Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, and Sourav Ganguly endorsed My11 Circle. Virat Kohli was associated with MPL, while Dhoni’s contract was with WinZO.

According to Cricbuzz, “Kohli was getting INR 10–12 crore annually, while Rohit Sharma and Dhoni had a deal worth INR 6–7 crore. For young players, the figure is around INR 1 crore. Overall, Indian cricketers are likely to lose between INR 150–200 crore a year after their contracts were terminated.”

BCCI is set to suffer a loss of 125 crore after Dream11 and My11 Circle ended their partnerships with the Indian Cricket Board.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and Sunrisers Hyderabad had sponsorship deals with gaming companies.
