Ravichandran Ashwin, who harassed the batsmen with his spin till 17 seasons in the IPL, finally said goodbye to the league on Wednesday (August 27). This off -spinner, who retired just before the 39th birthday, has left such an impression in the IPL that hardly anyone could repeat in the coming times. Ashwin has special records of wickets, counting of matches and economy rates everywhere.

Former Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced on Wednesday that he would not play in IPL 2026. That is, after debuting in 2009, his IPL journey, which lasted for 17 seasons, is now over. Ashwin, who played for teams like Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Pune Supergiants and Rajasthan Royals, has left many important records in his career.

1. Presence in 221 matches

Ashwin played a total of 221 matches in the IPL. More matches have been played by only players who made their debut in 2008 such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja and Shikhar Dhawan. This in itself tells how long Ashwin can play.

2. 187 wickets and consistently effective bowling

Ashwin took a total of 187 wickets in the IPL. More wickets than them are only the names of Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunil Narayan and Piyush Chawla. The special thing is that on an average, he took 11 wickets in every season. His best season was 2011 when he took 20 wickets for Chennai Super Kings and played a big role in winning the title to the team.

3. India’s No.-1 finger spinner

Ashwin (187 wickets) is at the forefront of all the Indian finger spinners played in the IPL so far. There are many big names in the list of leg spinners, but they have no match with India as an off -spinner. However, surprisingly, despite such a long career, his name is not a single five-forward record.

Other records

Ashwin’s economy rate was 7.2, which is considered extremely spectacular in format like T20. He continued to contribute to the team not only the bowler but also with fielding and batting. He is also named 52 catches and a half -century (50 runs).

The biggest strength of the IPL has been that many stars became here and many Legessies were left. Ashwin will always be counted among the veterans who not only took wickets but continued to win the match for the team with their bowling continuously for 17 years.
