Delhi: Former India cricketer and selector Chris Srikanth has questioned the preparations of the Indian team regarding the 2026 T20 World Cup. He said that even though this team can win the Asia Cup, it is very difficult to win the World Cup with this team.

Srikanth raised questions on team selection

The 2026 T20 World Cup is to be played in India and Sri Lanka. Srikanth said on his YouTube channel, “We can win the Asia Cup with this team, but there is no possibility to win the T20 World Cup with this team. Will you take this team to the World Cup? Is this preparation of the World Cup, which is not far away?”

Srikanth also questioned the selection of the team. He disagreed over Shubman Gill being made the vice-captain and the removal of Akshar Patel. He said that Shubman played the last T20 match against Sri Lanka in July 2024 and has now become the vice-captain directly.

“They have gone behind. Akshar Patel has been removed from the vice-captain. I don’t know how Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey and Harshit Rana have come into the team. IPL is considered a platform for selection, but it seems that the previous performance has been ignored.”
