Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has raised an alarm as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the Bronco test to improve the fitness levels of the Indian players. According to reports, the Indian Cricket Board has discontinued the YO-YO Test. The new test involved a run of 20 metres, 40 metres, and 60 metres.

Recalling his experience, de Villiers revealed the nature of the test. The legendary batter was unaware of the term but remembered going through such a test once he was informed about how it works.

“I was unaware of the term, but I knew what it was when the team explained it. I started doing it when I was 16 years old. It is called the sprint repeat ability test in South Africa,” AB de Villiers said.

“It is one of the worst you can do. I can recall going for it at the SuperSport Park in winter, with less oxygen. The altitude over here is 1500 meters above sea level. The lungs would burn out due to less oxygen,” he added.

The players must complete shuttle runs of 60m, 40m, and 20m in five sets. Overall, the test of the 1200m has to be completed as soon as possible and without taking a break.

Former India player Ravichandran Ashwin spoke against the test, saying that a change in training could lead to injuries.
