The Australian men’s cricket team created history on Sunday (August 24) by becoming the first team in the world to win an ODI match against the South African team by more than 250 runs. In ODIs, on 14 occasions, teams have secured a win by more than 250 runs, but Sunday was the first time in the 54-year-long history of ODI cricket that any team defeated a South African team by more than 250 runs in an ODI match.
In the third and final ODI of the three-match series at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, Australia posted a total of 431/2 in 50 overs after opting to bat first and then bowled the Temba Bavuma-led side out for just 155 runs in 24.5 overs.
The win by 276 runs on Sunday is also Australia’s second-biggest win in ODIs (overall) and biggest ODI win in Australia.

South Africa’s previous biggest defeat in ODIs by run margin was against India. In the 2023 ODI World Cup match played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5, 2023, Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket haul helped India bowl Temba Bavuma’s side out for just 83 runs in reply to the 327-run target.
