India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has caught the attention of the selectors as he is set to be picked in India’s A Squad for the upcoming multi-format series against Australia A at home.
According to several reports, Iyer is set to be handed responsibility, possibly even the captaincy of the India A side.
These games will give selectors a close look at players who are in cotention for the upcoming against the West Indies.
Currently, he is playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 against Central Zone in the semifinals.
He could score only 25 runs in the first innings. However, it is unlikely to affect the chances of Iyer’s selection for the upcoming two four-day red-ball games against Australia A.
The report further suggests that even if Iyer is not selected for the white-ball games, it is very likely that he will selected for the red-ball games against Australia A.
The selectors still consider him part of India’s future in Test cricket.
This is a clear hint that Shreyas Iyer could be considered for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies in October as well as the away red-ball series in Australia later this year.
Apart from Iyer, Nitish Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan, N Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rajat Patidar Are Among Other in Consideration for the Red-Ball Selection.
The first of the two four-day games between India A and Australia A will get underway in Lucknow on September 16, just a day after the Duleep Trophy 2025 final, which will be played from September 11 to 15 in Bengaluru. The second red-ball game is scheduled in Lucknow from September 23 to 26.
After the red-ball games, the action shifts to the white-ball cricket in Kanpur where three games are set for September 30, October 3 and October 05.
On the other hand, the two match test series between India and West Indies will begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad.
The second and final game is scheduled for October 10 in Delhi. In the same month, the Men in Blues will also travel to Australia for the white-ball series. The tour will begin with the ODIs on October 19 and it is being that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will both retire from the game in Australia.
