Azmatullah Omarzai’s Blitz Set Up Solid Start for Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2025

The all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai has helped Afghanistan to secure a massive win against Hong Kong at Abu Dhabi.

Afghanistan won their first match of their Asia Cup 2025, starting with a positive note, claiming a 94-run victory against Hong Kong.

Sediqullah Atal and Rahmanullah Gurbaz opened the innings for Afghanistan, while Ayush Shukla opened the bowling attack.

Ayush Shukla brought the first dismissal, bagging the wickets of Gurbaz for 8 runs, while Ateeq Iqbal bagged the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran for 1 run.

With Sediqullah Atal and Mohammad Nabi at the crease, Afghanistan scored 41 runs in the power play.

Kinchit Shah went on to bag the wickets of Nabi and Naib for 33 and 5 runs, while Atal went on to score steadily.

Sediqullah Atal went on to smash his third fifty helping the side to cross 100 run mark. However, Azmatullah Omarzai made a quick 21 ball 53 which included 2 fours and five sixes has helped the side to cross 150 run mark.

With Omarzai’s dismissal for 53 runs by Shukla, Karim Janat lost his wicket for 2 runs. With Rashid Khan’s 3* and Sediqullah’s 73* runs has helped the side to set 189 run target for Hong Kong.

In the pursuit of chasing 189 runs, Zeeshan Ali and Anshuman Rath opened the innings while Fazalhaq Farooqi opened the bowling attack.

With the dismissal of Anshuman Rath for duck by Fazalhaq Farooqi, Zeeshan Ali lost his wicket for 5 runs to Azmatullah.

With Nizakat Khan and Kalhan Challu’s dismissal for 0 and 4 respectively, Hong Kong scored only 23 runs for four wickets.

With Kinchit Shah’s dismissal for 6 runs, Babar Hayat was the only scorer for Hong Kong picking 39 runs before being dismissed by Gulbadin.

By the end of 20 over innings, Hong Kong scored 94 runs for 9 wickets by the end of 20 over innings.

Amzatullah Omarzai was named as the Player of the match. Speaking on the post match presentation, “Very tough batting in the lower order. It is all about belief. The captain and coach have belief in me. Was trying to hit it straight.”

“We lost early wickets. I was speaking to Atal that we will go for boundaries after the 16th over. When I get the ball, I feel am a proper bowler. When I get to bat, I feel am a proper batter (smiles),” he concluded.

India and United Arab Emirates will play in the next match of the Asia Cup 2025 on September 10 at Dubai International Stadium.
