The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will take place from February 7 to March 8, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. This will mark the 10th edition of the tournament, with India looking to defend their title after winning in 2024 by defeating South Africa in the final in Barbados.
The tournament will include 20 teams and 55 matches, taking place at seven venues, with five in India and two in Sri Lanka. The final is expected to be held at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, though if Pakistan qualify for the final, it will be staged in Colombo.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be the primary host for the 2026 T20 World Cup, while Sri Lanka will act as the co-host for Pakistan’s matches. This arrangement follows an agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which was made earlier this year, following longstanding political tensions between the two nations, which escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack.
While the full schedule hasn’t been finalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the tournament’s window has been confirmed and shared with the participating nations.
Currently, 15 teams have secured their spots in the T20 World Cup, including India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, England, Australia, Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa, USA, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands, and Italy. The last five spots will be filled through regional qualifiers, with two teams from Africa and three from the Asia and East Asia Pacific regions.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will follow the same format as 2024, with 20 teams split into four groups.
For the BCCI, 2026 will be busy, hosting four major events. The year will kick off with the Women’s Premier League in January and February, running alongside the men’s series against New Zealand. Following that, the T20 World Cup will take place, with the IPL scheduled from March 15 to May 31.
