The Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has joined Hampshire for their final two County Championship fixtures, following the points deduction.

He will be playing the games against Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton from September 15-18 and against the Reigning champions Surrey at the Utilita Bowl from September 24-27.

Hampshire were docked eight points following a Cricket Discipline Panel to their Championship fixture in May against Sussex.

They were referred to the CDP for preparing a sub-standard pitch, and following a hearing last week, the county has been handed a fine and a points deduction.

“We’re delighted to bring Washington to the club for the County Championship. He had an excellent series against England this summer, and he’ll play a key role with two big games coming up against Somerset and Surrey,” said Giles White, Hampshire’s Director of Cricket.

The 25-year old has played 40 first class matches includes 13 tests, amassing over 1800 runs at an average of 34.

With that ball, Sundar has claimed 91 wickets at an average of 28, with his best innings figures being 7/59 against New Zealand in Pune last year.

Washington Sundar has marked his return to County Cricket after three years. He previously represented Lancashire in 2022, making an immediate impact with a five wicket haul on debut against Northamptonshire.

Apart from him several Indian players has featured in this year UK’s domestic season – Khaleel Ahmed (Essex), Tilak Varma (Hampshire), Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire), Ishan Kishan (Nottinghamshire), and R Sai Kishore (Surrey).

Mayank Agarwal is currently on a three-match deal with Yorkshire, while Jaydev unadkat is playing for Sussex.
