Phil Soult played an explosive innings of 141 runs in 60 balls, making England the third highest score (304/2) in T20I. Jose Butler also added 83 runs. In response, South Africa was reduced to 158 runs. Joffra Archer took 3 wickets. England equalized the series 1–1.
Delhi: England veteran Batsman Phil Soult scored 141 runs in just 60 balls, batting tremendously in the second T20 International match against South Africa. He hit 15 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. Salt completed a century in just 39 balls and Liam Livingstone broke the old record of century in 44 balls.
Salt started with three fours off the first three balls of the match. He and Jose Butler added 100 runs in the first 6 overs, which is the fastest powerplay score in England’s T20I. Butler scored 83 runs in 30 balls which included 7 sixes and 8 fours.
The pair of Butler and Salt added 129 runs in just 8 overs. Although Butler was dismissed by Byrne Fortune, England’s run progress did not diminish. England scored 166 runs in 10 overs, scoring faster in consecutive faster, which is the highest score in T20I. It seemed at one time that he could break Zimbabwe’s 344 runs world record.
Jacob Bethel scored 26 in 14 balls and Harry Brook scored an unbeaten 41 in 21 balls. Salt broke its own 119 -run record in the 18th over and England crossed the record of 267 runs against the West Indies in the same over in 2023.
Although England could not reach the 344 figure, he scored 304 runs for 2 wickets in 20 overs. This is the third largest score in T20I history.
The bowlers of South Africa put very expensive spells. Marco Yansen gave 60 runs in 4 overs and did not take any wickets, his economy was 15.00. Kagiso Rabada also spent 70 runs in 4 overs and took 4 wickets, his economy was 17.50. Williams, who played Lungi Angidi, took 2 wickets for 62 runs in 3 overs. Byorn Fortuine took 2 wickets for 52 runs in 4 overs, his economy 13.00. Young bowler Qaina Mafaka took 1 wicket for 41 runs in 4 overs. Captain Eden Markram also threw an over in which he conceded 19 runs.
Chasing a target of 305 runs, there were challenges for the first ball for the South Africa team. In such a situation, South Africa also faster. Eden Markram (41 in 20 balls) and Ryan Ricelton (20 in 10 balls) added 50 runs in the first 4 overs. But not all the batsmen of the team were able to perform special and finally the entire team of South Africa was dismissed for 158 runs in just 16.1 overs.
Jofra Archer (3 wickets, 25 runs) made England return. He took 2 wickets in one over. Liam Dawson also dismissed Rickton with a great catch.
Sam Karan took two wickets and Adil Rashid dismissed Markram, Dawson and Will Jax also took 2-2 wickets.
England won the match and made the three-match series 1-1. Now the decisive match of the 3 -match series will be played on Sunday 14 September at Trent Bridge.
