Kranti Goud has added more teeth to the Indian attack. She took three wickets, including captain Alyssa Healy, helping India to a remarkable 102-run victory against Australia in the second One Day International (ODI) at New Chandigarh on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old, who had sent the dangerous Healy back in the first ODI on the same ground, has proved to be a good foil to Renuka Singh, setting up a promising new ball attack for the Women’s World Cup host.
Kranti, who could move the ball at a good pace, made her international debut in May 2025 and made headlines within three months, taking six wickets in India’s 13-run win against England in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street.
On Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh bowler helped India to its first win against Australia at home in 18 years. Over four months since her debut, she has proven to be a player India has needed for quite some time.
“I keep it simple,” Kranti said, “When I talk to the coach, he just tells me to bowl to my strengths.
If I do that, I believe it becomes tougher for the batter.”She said she enjoyed watching Smriti Mandhana’s century (117 off 91 balls), a knock that ensured India had enough runs on the board to challenge Australia’s star-studded batting line-up.
“Everyone is crazy about her batting,” Kranti said. “When Smriti bats, the whole stadium chants her name.. Now we are focusing on the final match in the series.”
India and Australia have won apiece in the three-match ODI series, with the final game slated at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi on September 19.
