Shreyas Iyer will not be part of India A’s second unofficial test against Australia A, which begins on September 23 at Lucknow.

In his absence, Dhruv Jurel will be leading the side that has marked in the series by compiling 140 runs in the first match.

“Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won’t be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A.”

“However, he remains in fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series,” said a source.

The first unofficial test ended in a draw after Australia A declared on 532/6, powered by centuries from Sam Konstas and Josh Phillippe, while India A responded with 531/7 after hundreds from Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal.

With no replacement has been added to the squad for the second game, India A will be reinforced by the arrivals of senior players KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj, both of whom are available after missing the opening fixture.

Their inclusion adds depth to a squad designed to provide exposure to younger cricketers.

The four-day red-ball fixtures will be followed by a three match unofficial ODI series to be played at Green Park in Kanpur.

Rajat Patidar will be leading the 13-member India A squad for the series while Opener Tilak Varma currently part of India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the UAE, will take over the Captaincy duties for the remaining fixtures.
