Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has highlighted the importance Arshdeep Singh in India’s T20I set-up. He commented after Arshdeep’s match-winning performance against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025. The pacer conceded two runs in the Super Over as India sealed a comfortable victory.

Ashwin praised Arshdeep Singh, saying he deserves a regular spot despite Bumrah’s presence. Arshdeep took two wickets in the most important over of the match.

“Even before the Asia Cup, I said Arshdeep Singh is important. He proved it again with a brilliant finish. His Super Over performance showed exactly why he is important,” Ashwin said.

“Jasprit Bumrah’s absence was a big setback, but he’ll return for the final. Still, Arshdeep Singh once again proved his quality and showed why he is ranked among India’s top bowlers,” he added.

Ashwin observed that Arshdeep Singh’s efforts are frequently overshadowed by Jasprit Bumrah’s presence. During India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024, Bumrah kept batsmen quiet while Arshdeep steadily rose to the top of the wicket-takers’ list, finishing with 17 in seven matches to guide India to glory.

“When Jasprit Bumrah is around, Arshdeep Singh doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves. But I firmly believe he is India’s premier bowler in this format. With 100 T20I wickets, he has once again shown his quality,” Ashwin mentioned.
