He will replace Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis, who has been out of the team. Karthik has a lot of experience of T20 cricket. Karthik, who became an IPL champion with Mumbai Indians in 2013, was also a member of the Indian team who won both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
In recent years, Karthik Royal Challengers have been associated as a batting coach for the Bangalore franchise, who won their first IPL title in 2025.
