Shubman Gill, achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring a half-century in his debut Test innings as captain on home soil during Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies on Friday. This made him only the second Indian cricketer to accomplish this feat, joining the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. In his first innings as captain at home, Gavaskar scored a brilliant 205 against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium in 1978.

Gill’s half-century against the West Indies highlights his ability to perform under pressures. This achievement signals a great beginning to his captaincy in home Tests, showcasing both his leadership and batting ability.

India resumed Day 2 at 121/2, with Shubman Gill making a steady 50 off 100 balls before being dismissed by Roston Chase,. KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel then forged a solid partnership, with Rahul bringing up his century, which included 12 boundaries.

He was dismissed by Jomel Warrican. Ravindra Jadeja joined Jurel, and the pair added over 200 runs. Jurel played a fantastic innings of 125 off 210 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes, before being caught behind in the final moments of the day. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 104 from 176 balls, hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes, with Washington Sundar on nine. At stumps, India reached 448/5, holding a 286-run lead after the West Indies were bowled out for just 162.
