After scintillating centuries from KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja also went on to smash his century, extending India’s dominance against the West Indies in the first test played at Ahmedabad.
With his knock, India went on to score 448/5 by the end of day 02. Jadeja scored his sixth test century for India, which helped him to join the elite list of cricketers after Ashwin and Kapil.
He becomes the third cricketer to score at least six centuries and take at least six five-wicket hauls in Test cricket.
During his playing days, Kapil scored 8 centuries and picked up 23 fifers in 131 test matches, whereas Ashwin finished his test career with 6 centuries and 37 five-wicket hauls.
The Men in Blues are slated to play a two-match test series against the West Indies in October.
Jadeja who is playing his 86th test, has six centuries and 15 five-wicket hauls. During his stay at crease on Friday, Jadeja faced 176 balls and slammed 6 fours and 5 sixes.
He added 206 runs for the fifth wicket with Dhruv Jurel, who made 125 runs from 210 balls. The all-rounder also hit five sixes which helped him overtake MS Dhoni and become fourth Indian after Virender Sehwag, Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma to smack atleast 80 sixes for Team India.
Batting first, West Indies went on to get bowled out for 162 runs on the back of Mohammed Siraj’s four wicket haul. He was accompanied with Jasprit Bumrah (3) and Kuldeep Yadav (2) to dismantle West Indies line up on the day 01 itself.
Starting their innings, India had a decent start with losing their first wicket for 68 runs. Despite Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja made solid knocks putting India at control.
After KL Rahul made his 11th test century, Dhurv Jurel went on to score his maiden Test century.
With Jadeja and Sundar at crease, India finished strongly for 448/5 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
