A new chapter has been written in Indian cricket. Shubman Gill has been appointed as India’s 28th ODI captain. This major decision has been taken before the three -match ODI series against Australia in October, which will start India’s 2027 ODI World Cup visit.
Great history of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy
Rohit Sharma captained Team India for four years and during this time gave India many historic victories. Under his leadership, India traveled to the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and also won the Champions Trophy 2025 title, which came after a 12 -year long drought. Rohit captained 56 ODIs, in which his win percentage was 75%. Now, he has been freed from captaincy and he will only play in the team as a batsman.
New responsibility on Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, who is now 26 years old, has been elected the new ODI captain of India. This post is a big challenge for him, because till now Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni have been the two captains who have given India the success of winning the ODI World Cup. With this new leadership, Gill will have to lead the Indian team in the 2027 World Cup, and it can prove to be a significant turn for his career.
