Sophie Devine’s resilient knock has guided New Zealand to post a decent total against South Africa Women during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 game played on October 06 at Indore.
Her 85-run knock, which included 9 fours, has helped the side to post 231 runs in the scoreboard in the Monday clash.
After choosing to bat first, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer opened the innings for New Zealand while Marizanne Kapp opened the bowling attack.
Kapp bagged the wickets of Bates for a golden duck, while Plimmer and Amelia Kerr went on to build the innings slowly as they scored 38 in the powerplay.
Kerr got dismissed for 23 runs by Nadine de Klerk and with the arrival of Sophie Devine New Zealand steadily stabilised the innings.
Plimmer who had a slowly innings scoring 31 runs off 68 deliveries got dismissed by Chloe Tryon.
With Brooke Halliday joined Devine, New Zealand stabilised the innings as they forged a 86 run partnership before Halliday got dismissed for 45 runs.
Their dismissal saw fall of the New Zealand batting collapse as the batters got dismissed for a single digit scores.
Sophie Devine added 85 runs to the scoreboard before being dismissed by Mlaba as New Zealand lost 7 wickets for 220 runs.
With the dismissal of Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu and Eden Carson, New Zealand score 231 runs with 13 balls remaining.
Unload Bagged Four Wickets while, Marizanne Kapp, Agamba Khaka, Nadine de Klerk and chloe Tryon Bagged one Wicket Each.
Speaking at the toss, Sophie Devine said, “We are going to have bat first today. It is a pretty good surface and didn’t change much in the last game.”
“We have the benefit of knowing what will be a good total on this surface. We know how threatening the South Africa bowling line-up can be. There has been a bit of rain today. Same team,” concluded Devine.
Meanwhile, Laura Wolvaardt said, “Yeah, don’t mind it too much. I think it’ll be a hard wicket to defend later on the leg, so don’t mind chasing that. Took our learnings from it, but at the same time, put it behind us as quickly as we could.”
“Obviously, a quick turnaround, but I think that’s a good thing to come off today and really start the tournament properly again. No changes,” concluded Wolvaardt.
