In the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, South Africa defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets. New Zealand scored 231 runs while batting first. In response, South Africa achieved the target in 40.5 overs. Sunne Luce played a brilliant innings of 83 not out.
Delhi: In the 7th match of ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the South Africa women’s team defeated the New Zealand women’s team by 6 wickets to register a significant victory in the tournament. The match was played on Monday, 6 October 2025 at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first, but his decision did not prove to be more beneficial.
The New Zealand women’s team, batting first, was all out for 231 runs in 47.5 overs. The team started poorly, when experienced batsman Suzi Bates was dismissed on the first ball without opening the account. Emelia Kerr scored 23 runs and Georgia Plimer contributed 31 runs. Captain Sophie Divine scored 85 runs off 98 balls, which was the biggest for the team. Brook Holiday also scored an important 45 runs.
For South Africa, Nonkulululeko Mlaba bowled brilliantly and took 4 wickets. He broke the middle order of New Zealand for just 40 runs in 10 overs. Apart from them, the patients, Aybonga Khaka, Chloe Train and Nadin D Clarke also took one wicket each. There were 21 runs in New Zealand’s innings.
Chasing the target, the South Africa women’s team lost 4 wickets in 40.5 overs and scored 234 runs and won the match. Opener Tazmin Brits and captain Laura Volvardt made a fast start. Tazmin scored 101 runs which included 15 fours and 1 six. Volvardt returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs. After this, Luce and Marizain Cupp strengthened the team. Sunne Luce scored an unbeaten 83, while Cupp added 14 runs in 15 balls.
For New Zealand, Emelia Cair took 2 wickets, while Jess Kerr and Leah Tamhu got 1-1 wickets. However, his bowling could not stop South Africa’s aggressive batting.
With this victory, the South African team has strengthened their campaign in the tournament. Captain Laura Volvardt’s strategy and the team’s balanced performance gave him a big win. At the same time, this is the second defeat of New Zealand tournament. They need to re -work on their strategy and middle order.
