Despite Rabeya Khan’s final stretch, Bangladesh posted a low par score against England as Sophie Ecclestone, along with other spinners, put up quite a show during the Women’s World Cup 2025 clash played on October 07 at Guwahati.
Despite solid knocks from Sobhana Mostary (60) and Rabeya Khan (43*), Bangladesh went on to post only 178 runs on the scoreboard.
After being invited to bat first, Bangladesh lost the wickets of Opener Rubya Haider and Nigar Sultana for 4 and 0 to Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith, respectively, within the powerplay.
With Shamim Akhter and Sobhana Mostary at the crease, Bangladesh posted only 31 runs on the board in the power play.
Sophie Ecclestone, who came to attack, bagged the wicket of Sharmin Akhter for 30 runs, while the dismissal of Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun and Nahida Akter for cheap dismissals left Bangladesh reeling for 130 runs with only three wickets in hand.
With Sobhana Mostary smashing her half-century during the game, Rabeya Khan joined her before the former got dismissed for 60 runs by Alice Capsey on an lbw.
Rabeya Khan showed some resistance playing a late cameo, but her 43* knock went in vain as the side got bowled out for 178 runs in the last over of the innings.
England spinners dominated the ground as Sophie Ecclestone picked three wickets, while Linsey Smith, Charlotte Dean and Alice Capsey bagged two wickets each and Lauren Bell ended with one wicket.
Speaking at the toss ceremony, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt said, “We’ll bowl first. We’ve had a lot of success, we’re pretty confident after that, but we’ll have to start fresh today.”
“We rested well and are well prepared for today’s game, just making sure we practice as well as possible. She did, she was excellent with the new ball in the T20 side, no changes for us,” concluded Brunt.
Meanwhile Nigar Sultana said, “We wanted to bat first. That win was good confidence, do well moving forward and play our A game today.”
“We wanted the batting unit to click, looking forward to doing the same today as well. To see the young players coming up and doing well is good to see. That gives us a lot of positives – two changes for us,” concluded Nigar Sultana.
