Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj performed at the highest level against the West Indies in the recently concluded first Test of the 2nd Test match series between India and the West Indies. Their performances against the Caribbean side gained them a few places in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.
In doing so, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj attained their career-best rankings in the longest format of the game in their respective categories. With his spectacular century against the West Indies in India’s only batting innings, the current top-ranked Test All-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, jumped up by 6 places to No. 25 in the Men’s Test Batting rankings list, leapfrogging the likes of Marnus Labuschagne (former World No. 1), Cameron Green and Ollie Pope, amongst others. The former no. 1-ranked Test bowler in the world managed to pick up 4 wickets to go with his 104 runs against the West Indies, making him the Player of the Match.
His previous best in the Batting rankings in Test was 29th, which he achieved in July this year. Ravindra Jadeja now has 644 points in the rankings, his career best tally.
Jaddu wasn’t the only one who moved in the positive direction in the Player Test rankings. Mohammad Siraj also made headway in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler rankings. The 31-year-old picked up a 4-fer followed by a 3-fer in the second inning, only conceding 71 runs against the opposition in the first test. This performance culminated in him placing 12th in the Test bowler rankings, which happens to be a career-best placing in Test cricket for the former ODI World No. 1 bowler. Siraj jumped 3 places while also crossing the 700-point mark for the first time in his red-call career and now sits on 718 points.
KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, the wicketkeepers of India, who both scored centuries, gained positions in the Men’s Test Batting rankings too. Rahul scored a home Test Century after a gap of 9 years, with his last one coming against England in December 2016, where he scored a tragic 199. He moved up 4 places to 35th; meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel moved up 20 places to 65th after scoring his maiden Test Century. Kuldeep Yadav, after picking up 2 wickets, also gained 7 places to 21st position in the ICC Men’s Bowling rankings.
