Former Indian cricket great Dilip Vengsarkar is set to probe a heated clash between Prithvi Shaw and Musheer Khan during a three-day warm-up match between Mumbai and Maharashtra.

The altercation took place on the opening day after Shaw fell to Musheer’s off-spin. Attempting to play a sweep shot, Shaw failed to connect cleanly and was caught at deep fine leg. As he began to head back to the dressing room, tempers flared, and an intense exchange of words followed between the two players.

In a moment of frustration, Shaw tried to hit Musheer with the bat. The match officials quickly stepped in to prevent the situation from spiralling further.

Following the incident, Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed that Dilip Vengsarkar will meet with both players during the upcoming Mumbai Ranji team selection committee meeting.

“Mumbai’s Ranji team selection committee will meet, and during that meeting, we’ll speak with the captain, coach, and the player involved to understand what took place. We’ll also receive a report on the incident, and our Advisor, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, will have a word with the players as well,” Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap told mid-day.

Kamlesh Pisal from the Maharashtra Cricket Association also confirmed that they will look into the incident, highlighting the importance of maintaining discipline among players.

“I haven’t received the report yet, but I will be getting complete details about the incident soon,” Adv Kamlesh Pisal, secretary of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, told mid-day.

“If anything comes to light, we will address it based on the seriousness of the matter. Discipline is a key factor, and we will speak to both players, Shaw and Musheer, if necessary,” Kamlesh Pisal added.

Shaw impressed with a brilliant innings on the opening day, marking his return to form after recently joining Maharashtra following eight years with Mumbai. His knock of 181 from 219 balls stood out for its fluency and control.
