Delhi: Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has created a new history on Thursday. She broke the record of scoring most runs in a single calendar year in women’s ODI cricket. She made this record in the ICC Women’s World Cup match played between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam. Mandhana broke the 28-year-old record by hitting a six off Ayabonga Khaka in the eighth over.

Mandhana broke Belinda Clark’s record

Earlier, Australia’s Belinda Clarke had the record of 970 runs made in 1997. Mandhana surpassed this record with her brilliant performance in 2025. She was on 959 runs before the start of the match and made a new record as soon as she hit a six. However, after this Mandhana was out after scoring 23 runs in the 11th over.

Now Smriti has scored a total of 982 runs in 17 matches. His average is 57.76 and strike rate is 112.22. This year he has scored four centuries and three half-centuries. His highest score is 135 runs. Apart from this, he has also hit 122 fours and 24 sixes.

Also, Mandhana can soon cross the mark of 5000 runs in ODI cricket. She will become the second Indian woman and the fifth woman cricketer overall to do so.

If she scores just 18 more runs, she will complete 1000 runs this year. If this happens, she can become the first female cricketer to do so. Apart from this, Mandhana has scored four centuries in 2025, which is the second highest number of centuries in any one year. In this matter, Tazmin Britz of South Africa is at number one, who has scored five centuries this year.
