After the Indian bowlers bundled out the West Indies for 248 on Sunday, the third day of the second Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, they imposed follow-on. The home team, having already declared their first innings at a formidable 518/5, had total command of the match, and the spinners’ performance made it worse for the visitors, where Kuldeep Yadav led with 5 wickets. Starting the day at 140/4, the West Indies fell to India’s incessant siege in just two sessions, where they showed no signs of fighting back.
Once again, Kuldeep Yadav turned out to be India’s hero by taking a remarkable five-wicket haul to break the West Indian batting line-up. With this performance, the left-arm wrist-spinner equaled the record of five-Test-match five-wicket hauls, in fifteen test matches, then held by England’s Johnny Wardle in 28 Tests among left-arm wrist-spinners. South Africa’s Paul Adams is a little further behind with four in 48 Tests.
Kuldeep has an astonishing bowling strike rate of 33.8 against the West Indies now. His control and variations were very much like those who were simply unable to cope with his sharp turning and drifting motions.
Kuldeep’s reliability in the longest format is still working the magic that India’s spin department has now become, thus giving the team an advantage in the home conditions. The West Indies were forced to follow on, and thus India is very much in a place to finish the match and take a convincing series victory.
