India suffered its second straight loss in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, losing to Australia by three wickets in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

The loss meant India was stuck on four points after four matches in the showpiece tournament, placed third in the standings.

South Africa is placed fourth in the standings level on points with India, but slotted lower due to an inferior net run rate (NRR). The Proteas, however, have a game in hand compared to India.

India’s chances to qualify for the final four of the tournament are very much in its own hands, as it will face both New Zealand and Bangladesh in the remainder of the competition.

If India manages to beat both these sides, it will accumulate eight points, which will be enough to secure fourth place in the standings if it has a higher NRR than both the aforementioned teams.

If India wins all three of its remaining encounters, it will secure a place in the top four irrespective of the NRR calculations.
