Shreyas Iyer, who is India’s vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, did not make it to the T20I squad. The move sparked debate among fans and cricket pundits, considering his excellent IPL 2025 campaign. Iyer guided Punjab Kings to the final and was among the runs.

Shreyas Iyer scored more than 600 runs and achieved a rare milestone by becoming the first captain to take three different teams to an IPL final. Former India player Mohammad Kaif lauded his performances, urging him to stay patient and confident that a T20I recall is not far away.

While there’s no certainty over when the selectors might recall Shreyas Iyer to the T20I squad, Kaif believes the wait won’t be too long before he returns to the shortest format.

“Great to catch up with Shreyas Iyer. What a player. Hundred on Test debut, 2023 ODI World Cup hero, only captain to lead 3 IPL teams to final. T20 national call up too will come, Hang in there, a great future awaits you Shreyas,” Mohammad Kaif wrote.

In 51 T20Is, Shreyas Iyer has amassed 1,104 runs, laced with eight half-centuries.
